Leeds University honours Randle Stonier

Thursday 16 July 2009

Randle Stonier, Founder and Chairman of AddingValue, was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Education by Leeds Metropolitan University.

The award was given to Mr Stonier in recognition of his services to the events industry and to education, on Wednesday 15th July 2009.

Randle 's association with Leeds Met came in 1996 when the notion of events management education was in its infancy. He was one of the first industrialists to openly support the development of a specific events degree. During those early years, he championed the UK Centre for Events Management to bring events education into the events arena.

He delivered an inaugural lecture in 1996 to 35 students on the BA (Hons) Events Management programme. He became an external examiner and continues to work closely with the UK Centre for Events Management in the development of their academic provision.

On receiving the news, Randle said "I was all at once stunned, delighted, disbelieving and so so happy - things like this don't happen to me". He went on to say, "More than anything, it really recognises the achievements of Leeds Met in becoming the UK Centre for Excellence in Event Management. I've watched that baby grow - not only walk and talk but sing and tap dance. It has been an immense privilege to work with a highly dedicated academic team (both past and present) and to experience at first hand the raw enthusiasm and progressive talent of successive waves of Leeds Met events graduates. It's more than compensated for having to wear a Dreamcoat gown and a dodgy hat."
